For Shopify stores
Test your Shopify store before shoppers do
Paste your store address and give simulated shoppers a task. Each one opens your storefront in their own real browser, browses a collection, picks a product and its options, and heads for checkout, so you see where they hesitate before real shoppers do. Mimiq is not a Shopify app, and there is nothing to install.
How do I test my Shopify store before launch?
Open the storefront to the public, then let simulated shoppers use it. In a Mimiq flow, each one browses, picks a product and its options, adds it to the cart and fills in the checkout forms with made-up details, for up to 40 steps, then stops at payment, since they get no payment details. The report shows where each one stopped and why. Test product pages on their own with a page test.
Why a store that works can still lose shoppers
A theme demo looks finished, and every click works when you try it yourself. New shoppers still get stuck: a variant picker that does not show which size is selected, a delivery cost that appears only at checkout, a cart drawer they did not notice, a discount code field that sends them off to hunt for codes. You find these with fresh eyes, not a checklist.
- Simulated shoppers browse collections, choose variants, use the cart and reach checkout in real browsers.
- They fill in contact and delivery forms with made-up details and an email inbox of their own.
- Product and collection pages can also be tested on their own as page tests, in minutes.
- No app to install: Mimiq opens your storefront the way any visitor does.
How it works
- 01
Open the store to the public
Simulated shoppers stop at a storefront password page, since they do not have your password. Open the store, or test once it is public. Check by opening the address in a private browser window.
- 02
Write the task
Start from the homepage or a collection and say what to try, such as finding a gift and getting to checkout. End the task at the payment step.
- 03
Choose the shoppers
Pick 1, 3, 5, 10 or 20 simulated shoppers matched to who buys from you, or describe them, such as gift buyers in Canada.
- 04
Read where they stopped
The report shows how far each shopper got, where they stopped, their last step and their own words, and the issues ranked by how many people raised them.
Store pages worth testing
The product page. Run it as a page test with your shopper described. Common objections: no delivery cost or time near the price, a variant picker that is easy to miss, reviews that look thin, a returns policy only in the footer.
The collection page. A flow that starts on a collection shows whether shoppers can filter and find something, or give up scrolling. A task such as 'Find a waterproof jacket in your size and add it to the cart' tests filters and variants together.
The cart. Many themes open a cart drawer instead of a cart page. Shoppers who do not notice it, or cannot find the checkout button in it, stop there.
Checkout. Simulated shoppers fill in the contact and delivery forms with made-up details, so delivery options, costs that appear late and forced account creation all show up. They stop at payment.
How checkout testing works on a Shopify store
Mimiq gives simulated shoppers no payment details, so they cannot pay, and the task should end at the payment step. If a shopper picks an express wallet button, such as Shop Pay or PayPal, they stop at its sign-in, because they have no account there. Read those stops as a limit of the test, not a problem with your store.
Their email addresses are on a Mimiq domain, with a working inbox. If abandoned checkout emails are turned on, a shopper who entered an email may receive one, and the checkout appears in your admin like any abandoned checkout.
A CAPTCHA or bot check can stop them, for example on an account or contact form. Anyone stopped by one is marked as blocked by the site, and if it stops everyone, the flow fails and nothing is charged. A staging or preview address without bot protection works, as long as it is public.
Product pages on their own
For a quick read on a single product page, a page test shows it to 25 simulated shoppers in about 90 seconds. Each decides whether they would buy, stay, skim or leave, and says why. Run the same page after a change on the same saved audience to see whose mind changed.
Test the words on their own when you are choosing between two: a product title, a shipping banner, a discount line. The headline tester compares two lines on the same simulated shoppers.
What this does not do
It does not install anything, read your Shopify data, or connect to your admin. It sees what a visitor sees. It is not a Shopify app, and nothing here implies a partnership with Shopify.
It does not predict conversion rate or average order value, and simulated shoppers cannot judge a product the way someone holding it can. Flows are not benchmarked against real checkout data yet.
Each shopper gets up to 40 steps, so keep the task to one path. A flow takes a few minutes and uses 5 credits a shopper. On a live store, test sessions appear in your analytics and among your abandoned checkouts.
Questions
Do I need to install a Shopify app?
No. Mimiq opens your storefront in real browsers the way any visitor does. Nothing is installed, and it never touches your admin.
Can it test a store that is still password protected?
No. Simulated shoppers stop at the password page. Open the store to the public, or test once it has launched.
Can the shoppers pay?
No. They get no payment details, so the task should end at the payment step. Use your payment provider's test mode to check payments themselves.
What about Shop Pay and other express buttons?
A simulated shopper who chooses one stops at its sign-in, since they have no account there. Treat that as a limit of the test.
Will this create orders or customers in my store?
Not orders, normally, since nobody pays; if your store takes orders without a card, such as cash on delivery, end the task before the last step. A shopper who creates an account or enters an email at checkout can appear as a customer or an abandoned checkout with a Mimiq email address.
What does it cost?
Your first test is free with a free account: sign in with Google and it starts right away, no card. The account includes 50 credits, enough for 10 people in a flow. After that a flow uses 5 credits a person, and then it is a $9 Starter (120 credits that never expire) or monthly plans from $49.
