Dog boarding booking form: why requests stall
A pet owner planning a trip wants to send one request from a phone and hear back. Find the field where they give up before the boarding request is lost.
What should a dog boarding booking form ask for?
It should ask only for what you need to reply: the dates, the dog's size and age, the vaccination status, feeding and medication needs, and one emergency contact. Each extra required field is a reason for a pet owner to send a message instead. A simulated test sends a visitor through the form on a phone and shows the field where the visitor stopped.
What this looks like in a report
“It wants the vaccine record before it will let me pick dates. The record is in my email as a PDF and this file picker only shows photos. I will just email the kennel and skip this.”
The fix. Make the vaccination record optional for the request and let the upload accept a PDF from the phone's files app. Move the date pickers above the upload, and refuse a check-out before the check-in on the same screen.

Owners quit at the vaccine upload and the date check
A boarding request is a promise to reply, so the form has to reach the send button. Owners plan trips at night on a phone, often with the vaccine certificate sitting in an email app. An upload field that does not open the phone's files, or opens them but rejects the file type, ends the request there. Two date pickers that accept a check-out before the check-in, with the error shown only after the last field, read as a broken form. The owner then sends a message to the number on the site, or books somewhere else.
- Can an owner reach the send button without scrolling past a long list of required fields?
- Does the vaccination upload open the phone's files app and accept a PDF from email?
- Does the check-out date refuse any day earlier than the check-in date?
- Does the weight field name its unit, and accept the unit the owner knows?
- After sending, does the page say what happens next and when a reply comes?
The fields an owner needs before they can reply
Think about what the owner must know to say yes or no. The dates, the dog's size, the vaccination status and any medication decide a yes. The form often asks for much more: a full feeding routine, a vet's phone number, a photo of the dog, a list of past boarding stays, a waiver with a signature box. Some of that matters after a yes, and it can wait for the confirmation step. Every question before the send button is one the owner must answer on a phone. Move the rest after the request is sent, and say that it is coming.
A vaccination upload that only works on a laptop
The upload is the most common place a boarding request dies, because it depends on the phone. A file picker may show photos but hide the PDFs that arrive by email, so the owner has to save the certificate to a cloud app first, and many will not bother. Some pickers accept one file type only, and a photo of a certificate saved in a format the picker does not read can be rejected with a message that never names the problem. Test it the way a pet owner would: on your own phone, with a PDF saved from an email. If the upload fails there, it fails for every owner who does not have a laptop nearby.
Dates that look right until the send button
Two date pickers feel simple until the check-out field accepts a day before the check-in. Some forms let the owner pick a date in the past, or a stay longer than the kennel takes. The error then appears only after the owner has filled the last field and pressed send, so the request looks sent when it was not. The owner sees a red line under a date and no explanation in plain words. Check the rule on the same screen as the date, and show the limit before the owner picks a day that cannot work.
Sent, but the owner hears nothing back
A sent request is only half the job. The owner is handing you a dog, and they need to know the kennel has the request and what happens next. A visitor in a test has an inbox, so the confirmation email to the visitor shows whether the page sent one. Whether your own inbox or booking tool received the request is a separate check, and the test does not read either one. If the page does not say when a reply comes, an owner who gets no word will send the same request to the next kennel on the list.
What you get with Mimiq
- 01
Run it by hand, or on every pull request
Paste a link and a task in the app and watch the visitors work. Or run them on every preview deploy: the GitHub Action comments on the pull request, any other CI can call the MCP endpoint, and your coding agent can run it too.
- 02
Bugs and usability problems in one report
The browser records errors and failed or slow requests on the step they happened. The visitors say where the wording or the steps confused them, and where they left.
- 03
Visitors that behave like your audience
Each visitor is a different profile with a reason to be there, matched to who the page is for, described by you, or built from your own customers.
- 04
A prompt to fix each problem
Every problem comes with a fix to paste into Cursor, Claude Code, Lovable or any coding agent, and one prompt hands over the top problems at once. Then send the same visitors through again.
- 05
Follow every visitor
See each visitor's whole path, step by step with screenshots, and what it was thinking at every step. Ask any visitor a question.
The browser records relevant JavaScript errors and failed or slow app requests encountered during the run, attached to the step where they occurred. The visitors are simulated: they find problems, they do not predict how many real people will convert.
A new vaccination rule can reject every upload again
The first run finds the field that stops the request. The fix changes it: an optional record, a file picker that opens the phone's files, dates checked on the same screen. Run the same owner again and see whether they reach the send button and a confirmation. Run it again after you change the vaccination rule, add a boarding package or move the form to a new page, since any of those can bring the upload back.

Questions
Does this tell me how many boarding requests I will get?
No. Mimiq does not predict how many owners will send a request, and it cannot say what share of visitors will book. It shows the field and the screen where a simulated visitor stopped, and what the form asked for at that point. For request numbers, use your form's own log and your site analytics.
Can the test pay a deposit for the stay?
No. A deposit that needs a real card stops the run at the payment step, because a visitor cannot pay with a real card. The test shows the form up to that point. Check the payment step yourself, with your own card in your own test mode, after the form is fixed.
Can I use a real vaccination record in a test?
No. Keep real pet records and owner details out of every test, and use a made-up dog name. The test tells you where a visitor stops at the upload. Check the real upload by hand, on your own phone, with a PDF you saved from an email.
Will the test confirm that my team gets the request?
No. A visitor has an inbox, so the test can show whether the confirmation email reaches the visitor. Whether your own inbox or booking tool receives the request is a separate check, and the test does not read your email, your booking tool or your analytics. Send one request yourself after each change and confirm it arrives.
Should the form ask for a deposit before the request?
That depends on how you take bookings, and the test does not decide it. The test can show whether a deposit step appears before the owner knows the price, and where the owner stops when the price is unclear. Put the price and the deposit rule on the screen where the owner picks their dates.
