Moving company online booking: where quotes die

A renter wants a two bedroom move next month and cannot say how many boxes that is. Mimiq sends simulated visitors through your quote and date steps and shows where each one stopped.

Why do people leave a moving company online booking before they get a quote?

They are asked for a load size they cannot estimate, or for a moving date the calendar will not offer, before they see a price range or a confirmed time. Some hit a phone verification step before any quote appears. A simulated test asks for a two bedroom move the way a renter would describe it and shows the step where the quote or the date stopped.

“They want cubic feet and I have no idea what my couch is in cubic feet. I'll guess, and if the guess is wrong they'll charge me later, so I'll call instead.”

The fix. Ask for rooms, boxes, stairs and floors, and estimate the volume behind the form so the renter never sees cubic feet. When no dates show, name the notice period in one line and offer the first date that is open.

The quote asks for cubic feet a renter has never measured

Movers quote from the load: how many rooms, how many boxes, whether there are stairs and how far the truck drives. A renter knows the rooms and the stairs but not the volume. Many forms ask for a cubic feet figure, a weight, or a list of heavy items the renter must total. Faced with that, the renter guesses, stops or calls. A date field adds a second wall. Most movers need some notice, so the calendar shows nothing for the coming week, and the form says no dates are available without explaining that the notice is the reason.

  • Can a renter describe the load by rooms, floors and stairs, without a volume or weight figure?
  • When no date is open, does the form say how much notice is needed?
  • Does the summary show the move date and the pickup address before payment?
  • Does phone verification come before the quote, or after the renter has seen a range?
  • Does the confirmation say the move is booked, or only that it was requested?

A load question only a mover can answer

The quote form is the most important page of a moving booking, and it is the one a renter is least able to finish. Think about how you would describe the move to a stranger on the phone. You would say two bedrooms, third floor walk-up, a couch and a bed frame. Type that story into your quote form and see what it accepts. If the form only takes cubic feet or a list of items with weights, the renter has to guess or stop, and a guess that goes wrong becomes an argument on moving day.

Dates hidden behind a notice period with no words

A calendar with no open days in the coming week is usually not broken. It enforces a notice period, a truck limit or a block for holidays. The problem is the silence. A gray calendar with no explanation reads as a company that is closed, and the renter leaves for a company that has dates. Pick the first date you can use, then the date after it. If the earliest open date is a week or more away, the form should say so in plain words next to the calendar.

A text code the renter may never receive

Some booking flows check the phone number with a text code before they show the quote. A simulated visitor has an email inbox, so an emailed code can be read, but a text message cannot reach them. That step ends the run, and the report names it. The same step can stop a real renter who uses a work phone or a landline, so put the quote before any verification and ask for the phone number once the renter has seen a range.

A confirmed move may need a deposit, and the test goes up to that payment step and no further, because a simulated visitor cannot pay with a real card. A run that reaches the payment step shows the summary, the date and the addresses held together. A run that stops earlier shows where the renter gave up before a card was ever needed.

How the methods compare for a moving booking

MethodWhat it showsWhat it misses
Analytics funnelWhich steps lose the most visitorsWhy a visitor left a step
Recordings of real visitorsWhat a visitor did on each screenRenters who never arrived
Logged phone callsQuestions renters ask out loudRenters who gave up before calling
Simulated visitors through the bookingThe step where a run stopped, with a screenshotHow many real renters would have finished

Each method sees a different part of the same booking, so the cheapest one to start with is the one that shows the step you already suspect.

What you get with Mimiq

  1. 01

Run it by hand, or on every pull request

Paste a link and a task in the app and watch the visitors work. Or run them on every preview deploy: the GitHub Action comments on the pull request, any other CI can call the MCP endpoint, and your coding agent can run it too.

  2. 02

Bugs and usability problems in one report

The browser records errors and failed or slow requests on the step they happened. The visitors say where the wording or the steps confused them, and where they left.

  3. 03

Visitors that behave like your audience

Each visitor is a different profile with a reason to be there, matched to who the page is for, described by you, or built from your own customers.

  4. 04

A prompt to fix each problem

Every problem comes with a fix to paste into Cursor, Claude Code, Lovable or any coding agent, and one prompt hands over the top problems at once. Then send the same visitors through again.

  5. 05

    Follow every visitor

See each visitor's whole path, step by step with screenshots, and what it was thinking at every step. Ask any visitor a question.

The browser records relevant JavaScript errors and failed or slow app requests encountered during the run, attached to the step where they occurred. The visitors are simulated: they find problems, they do not predict how many real people will convert.

A new truck or a holiday blackout can close every date at once

Moving calendars change with the fleet, the holiday blackouts and the crews a company can staff. A new truck can open dates, and a changed notice period or a blackout can close them all again while the calendar still looks like a normal week. Run the same two bedroom quote for the first open date after every calendar change, and once more for a date two weeks out. Repeat it before the summer moving season.

Questions

Can the test tell me how many renters will book a move?

No. It does not predict how many renters will book, and it cannot tell you how many would call instead. It shows the screen where each simulated visitor stopped, such as the load questions, the calendar or the phone step. Booking counts come from your calendar and your invoices.

Does a passing run mean the move is booked?

It means the run reached the confirmation your page shows. Check whether that page says the move is booked or only requested, because the test reads the words you wrote. A deposit step ends the run, since a simulated visitor cannot pay with a real card.

Should I enter a real renter's address in the test?

No. Use invented addresses and a test inbox. Pickup and drop-off addresses identify a real household, so keep them out of any form the test fills in, and keep real renter records in your own dispatch system.

Does the test check the truck, the crew or the price?

No. The test checks whether a visitor can describe a move, pick a date and reach a confirmation. It does not check truck availability, crew size or the price you quote. Those stay in your own dispatch and quoting process.
