Divi contact form not working for visitors

A phone visitor cannot reach the Send button under the cookie banner, or presses Send and sees an error inside a closed section. Mimiq sends simulated visitors through the Divi form on phones and laptops and shows the step where each one stopped.

How do I fix a Divi contact form that visitors cannot send?

Divi contact forms usually fail on a phone first: a button is covered, hidden at phone width, or inside a section a visitor cannot open. Those are layout faults you can see in a signed-out window. If the layout is fine and the form still returns an error, the fault is in the script or the mail step, and the error text is the first clue. Mimiq sends simulated visitors through the form on phones and laptops and shows the step and the text each one saw.

What this looks like in a report

Who
Keisha, looking for a physical therapist who can see her on a weekday evening
How they arrived
Tapped a Google result for a physical therapist near her office
Where they stopped
Contact form, on her phone, at the Send button

“I typed my name, my email and my question. The Send button is under the cookie banner, so I cannot tap it. I scrolled and it is gone. I will call the clinic at lunch.”

The fix. Keep the Send button above the cookie banner on phones by adding bottom padding to the form, and set the form section to show on phones in the section's visibility settings. Then open the page in a signed-out window on a phone and confirm Send is tappable with the banner on screen.

The Send button a phone visitor cannot reach

A Divi form is a module inside a section, and each section can be shown or hidden at each screen size. On a phone, a cookie banner pinned to the bottom can cover the Send button, a sticky header can sit on top of the last field, and a section hidden at phone width takes the whole form with it. The visitor fills in every field, reaches for Send, and taps nothing. You see the form on a laptop, where the banner and the header stay out of the way, so the fault never shows from your own desk.

  • Is Send visible on a phone, above any cookie banner and clear of a sticky header?
  • Is the form section set to show on phones, or hidden at that screen width?
  • Does an error appear under a field inside a collapsed tab or accordion?
  • Does the page log a script error after Send, or show an error from the form itself?

Layout faults that only a phone shows

Three layout faults cause many phone failures, and each one looks like a form that is working. A cookie banner pinned to the bottom covers the last part of the form. A sticky header covers the field above the button, so the visitor taps the header and not the field. A section set to hide on phones removes the form entirely at that width, leaving a contact page with a heading and nothing under it.

The page builder's visibility settings can hide a row or module at one screen width, with no warning in the view you use on your laptop. Open each section's settings and check every screen size, not only the desktop view you edit in. Then open the page on a phone, signed out, and tap through every field down to the button.

An error message inside a section the visitor never opened

Some Divi forms sit inside a tab, an accordion or a toggle. A required field in a closed section still blocks the submit, and the error appears somewhere the visitor has to open before they can see it. The visitor sees Send do nothing, the same as with a hidden checkbox, but the cause is a collapsed panel. Test by submitting with every field empty, then opening every panel on the page, so you know which one holds the error.

Optimization plugins are a second cause on this kind of page. A plugin that defers or combines JavaScript can delay the form's script until after the visitor has tapped Send, or stop it from running at all. The form then posts the ordinary way, or does nothing, and the mail step is never reached. Check the page's errors after Send, and test with optimization turned off for this page to see whether the difference is the plugin.

Mail that goes nowhere after a clean-looking send

A Divi form sends its message to the address set in the module's own settings, and that setting is easy to leave at a default or at an old mailbox. When the recipient is wrong, the visitor sees a thank you, because the form accepted the message, and the owner sees nothing. The mail can also be refused by the host, or land in spam because the sending domain lacks its mail records. None of these changes what the visitor sees, so the form looks healthy.

Separate the mail fault from the layout fault with the error text. If Send shows an error after a valid submit, read the message word for word and treat it as the form's own report. If Send shows a thank you and no mail arrives, the layout is fine and the recipient or the domain needs checking. The report keeps the text each visitor saw, so you can compare the two cases directly.

What you get with Mimiq

  1. 01

Run it by hand, or on every pull request

Paste a link and a task in the app and watch the visitors work. Or run them on every preview deploy: the GitHub Action comments on the pull request, any other CI can call the MCP endpoint, and your coding agent can run it too.

  2. 02

Bugs and usability problems in one report

The browser records errors and failed or slow requests on the step they happened. The visitors say where the wording or the steps confused them, and where they left.

  3. 03

Visitors that behave like your audience

Each visitor is a different profile with a reason to be there, matched to who the page is for, described by you, or built from your own customers.

  4. 04

A prompt to fix each problem

Every problem comes with a fix to paste into Cursor, Claude Code, Lovable or any coding agent, and one prompt hands over the top problems at once. Then send the same visitors through again.

  5. 05

    Follow every visitor

See each visitor's whole path, step by step with screenshots, and what it was thinking at every step. Ask any visitor a question.

The browser records relevant JavaScript errors and failed or slow app requests encountered during the run, attached to the step where they occurred. The visitors are simulated: they find problems, they do not predict how many real people will convert.

A Divi update or a new cookie banner can cover Send again

The Send button can move out of reach after a change that does not look like it touches the form: a Divi update, a new cookie banner, a sticky header, or a plugin that starts optimizing scripts. Rerun phone visitors through the form after each change, with the banner on screen. You catch the covered button before a customer writes in to say the form never worked for them.

Questions

Will the test show me the email my form sent?

No. It shows whether the form returned a thank you, an error or nothing, along with a screenshot of that step. It cannot tell you whether the notification reached your inbox, or whether a mail provider filed it as spam. Send one message from your phone and check the inbox yourself.

Can the test get past a site password on a staging page?

Yes, with paid credits. If the site sits behind a site password, visitors can open it with that password. Give the password to the test only, and take it out of the test settings once the run is done.

Does the test change my Divi settings?

No. Mimiq does not edit your pages. The report gives a fix prompt you can paste into a coding agent, and you make the change yourself, then run the visitors again.

Does a phone test cover every phone model?

No. The test covers phone-width browsers, and it cannot tell you how one particular phone model draws the page. A layout that works in the test can still feel cramped on a small screen, so check your own phone once after each change.

Can the test tell me which plugin is causing the error?

Not directly. The report records JavaScript errors and failed requests on the step where they happened, so you see the error and the step. It cannot tell you which plugin produced the error, so check your plugin list with the error text in hand.
