Boat rental booking system: the license question
A group of four wants a half day on the water and needs to know who can take the boat out. Mimiq sends simulated groups through your rental flow and shows where each one gave up, up to the payment step.
Why do groups leave a boat rental booking before they pay?
Groups leave a boat rental when the license and group size rules appear after they have picked a time. Boat rentals depend on rules a group may not know yet: who holds a license, how many people the boat carries and which boat fits them. A simulated test picks a boat type and a group size the way a customer would, and shows the step where the rules stopped the run.
What this looks like in a report
“I picked the big pontoon and a time. Now it asks whether everyone has a boating license. I'm not sure about the rest of the group. If not, I can't book this boat and I have to start again.”
The fix. Ask about license holders and group size on the boat type screen, before any time is shown. Put the boats that need no license next to the ones that do, and keep the group size limit under the boat name so a group sees it first.

The license and capacity rules arrive after the calendar
A group planning a birthday on a lake picks a boat from the photos, then a time that suits them. The booking then asks whether everyone is licensed to operate that boat, and whether the number of people fits the rules. A group with no license holder must go back and choose a smaller or different boat, and the time they picked may not exist for it. The calendar showed them a slot that is no longer theirs. Some will not start the process again, and the owner sees a flow that ended after the calendar.
- Pick the largest boat and a group of four. Does the license question come before a time?
- Is the group size limit shown on the boat page, or only after the form is sent?
- Does the page say which boats need a license holder aboard and which do not?
- Do life jacket choices ask for sizes, and can a child size be picked?
- Does the payment step show the deposit and the cancellation rule before the card field?
Where the rules sit between the boat and the payment
The license and capacity rules can sit on different screens for different boats, so the order can change from one rental to the next. Walk your own flow from the first boat pick to the payment step, and note the screen where each rule first appears. If the license question comes after a time is chosen, a group with no license holder has already picked a slot it cannot use. Move each rule to the screen where the group makes the choice it affects.
Choosing a boat before the rules are known
Customers pick the boat they picture, not the one they are allowed to take out. A large pontoon looks like the easy choice for a family, so a group clicks it before any license check. The fix is to show the rule on the boat itself, not in the fine print. A short line under the name, saying who must hold a license and the most people the boat carries, lets a group pick the right boat in one go. Test this with a group size near the limit. If the boat is still offered at a size it cannot take, the page lets the customer build a booking that fails later.
Add-ons, the deposit and what a run cannot check
Life jackets are usually a second list with sizes, and a family with a child needs a size the form may not offer. A deposit or a weather policy often sits on the payment step, so the test reaches that step and stops. Visitors have an email inbox, so a confirmation reaches them, but they cannot pay with a real card. The run also cannot check whether a license a group states is valid, whether the boat is in good shape, or whether the weather allows a trip. License rules differ by place, so confirm your local rule before you change any copy.
What you get with Mimiq
- 01
Run it by hand, or on every pull request
Paste a link and a task in the app and watch the visitors work. Or run them on every preview deploy: the GitHub Action comments on the pull request, any other CI can call the MCP endpoint, and your coding agent can run it too.
- 02
Bugs and usability problems in one report
The browser records errors and failed or slow requests on the step they happened. The visitors say where the wording or the steps confused them, and where they left.
- 03
Visitors that behave like your audience
Each visitor is a different profile with a reason to be there, matched to who the page is for, described by you, or built from your own customers.
- 04
A prompt to fix each problem
Every problem comes with a fix to paste into Cursor, Claude Code, Lovable or any coding agent, and one prompt hands over the top problems at once. Then send the same visitors through again.
- 05
Follow every visitor
See each visitor's whole path, step by step with screenshots, and what it was thinking at every step. Ask any visitor a question.
The browser records relevant JavaScript errors and failed or slow app requests encountered during the run, attached to the step where they occurred. The visitors are simulated: they find problems, they do not predict how many real people will convert.
A new boat added for summer can open a license gap you already closed
The first run finds the step where the rules appear. The fix moves a license line, a group limit or a life jacket size, and a new boat or a new season can put it back. Run the same group of four through the pontoon after each change, then one group with a child and no license. Repeat it before a busy weekend, because a rule that surfaces late costs the most when the calendar is full.

Questions
Can this tell me how many groups will book a boat?
No. It does not predict how many groups will book, and it cannot tell you how many leave at the license question. It shows the step where a simulated group stopped and what the page said there. Booking rates come from your reservation records and your site analytics.
Will a test reserve a real boat?
The test goes up to the payment step and stops there. Visitors can read email, so a confirmation reaches them, but they cannot pay with a real card or hold a deposit. If your flow needs a card, the report names the payment step as the last one reached.
Should I enter a real customer's license number in a test?
No. Use an invented group, invented license details and a test email inbox. Screenshots in the report show what the visitor typed, so keep customer names, license numbers and phone numbers out of the run.
Does the test check whether the boats are safe?
No. The test checks whether a group can understand the rules and reach the payment step. It does not check boat condition, safety equipment, the weather or local licensing law. Those belong to your own inspections and to the authority that sets the rules.
